Washi Tape!!

hi guys! I’m writing this post at my bbf’s ( best blogger friend ) house. And today I’m going to do a post on WASHI TAPE! If you don’t already know,  washi tape is like masking tape but its pattered and coloured and you can write on it, tear it easily, and it is very cheap and easy to use.

Washi means Japanese paper and has been used in Japan for over 1,000 years and is made from Japanese shrubs  unlike western paper which is made from tree pulp.  Washi tape was created in 2006 by a masking tape company in Japan.  It is known here for the beautiful designs that are printed or painted on it.  Westerners only call it washi tape, In Japan its just known as masking tape.

If you are interested in reading more about how its made, pop over to http://www.tofugu.com (since when has masking tape been this fun? Since Washi tape !  So cool !!  )

So I’m going to show you all the washi tape and ducktape I have and then show you what I’ve done with, where you can get it, how much it is and other stuff like that. Just remember that I live in the UK so won’t be the same as USA or other countries. So Let’s get Started!

So that’s all my ducktape and washi tape I πŸ’•β€οΈ it!!! The wee rolls in the middle I got in a pack of 3 and there were 75p each ( UK money ), super cheap as they were on sale.  Woo hoo. The duck tape was Β£1.50 each from Hobbycraft.

Duck tape and Washi Tape are very different.  As I said above you can write and draw on the Washi tape whereas you cant on the Duck tape. I have tried and it smudges. But I think  the duck tape  is more waterproof and durable and there was definetly  more designs available (in our shop anyway). You can also get it in thicker rolls so you can make bigger items like purses etc. Washi tape would def be too flimsy for that.  I love that we have the two options to choose from.  I used a mixture of the both in the things I made below.

These are the things I’ve made with Washi Tape

I am so excited about this!! My new light switch for my bedroom. Was soooooo easy to do.

Because the tape is sticky but also repositionable, you can lift straight back off if it was squinty.  I then used a craft knife to trim the edges. To finish off I used my favourite glittery nail polish on the actual switch.

I also decorated my favourite nail polish bottles from Justice. I think they look so snazzy !

I am going to have to stop myself from Washi taping everything in sight !  πŸ˜œ

I made the moustache bookmark above and also did a wee heart picture too.

πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œWashi wish list. I need/I want πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Paperchase has some totally cute tape, this one above is currently on sale Β£2.25. Steal !!  The one below is from Hobbycraft and is Β£3.50 but they have 3 for 2 sale at the moment

There is loads of video tutorials on you tube on how to make all sorts of things. U can even do your nails with them. Would have to be careful with the craft knife though 😁. Pinterest, other blogs have sooooo many cool ideas   I cant wait to try them all !!

So I’m off to bed now to dream of Washi with my newly covered Blog ideas book beside me.

Hope u enjoyed this post and I have inspired you to join the rest of the world who has gone Washi crazy 😜😜

  1. I love washi tape so much. I actually have a huge dispenser, which doesn’t even fit the other three rolls I have! πŸ™‚ I have a whole rainbow and use it so, so, so, so, SO much!
